There’s nothing quite like the sizzle of a steak hitting a hot pan. The aroma, the crust, the melt-in-your-mouth bite, it’s the kind of meal that feels indulgent, yet totally doable at home. If you’ve ever been intimidated about cooking a steak, you HAVE to try our fail-proof method that is truly simple and DELICIOUS. No need to get the grill out because all you need is the stove top, the oven, and an empty stomach.

Ingredients:

-1 steak (your choice of cut)
-Salt
-Pepper
-Butter

Directions:

  1. Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Twin tip: If you forgot to set out your steak to room temperature, place it in a bag and in hot water for a few minutes.

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees

3. Generously season both sides of the steak with salt and pepper.

4. Heat a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat until it’s very hot. A hot pan is crucial for a good sear.

5. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the pan. It’s ready when it just starts to smoke.

6. Place the steak in the hot pan. Sear without moving it for about 2 minutes on each side, or until a golden-brown crust forms. Sear on the sides too so the fat is rendered.

7. Place into the oven for a few minutes. For a medium cook, aim for an internal temperature of 135°F. Adjust cooking time as needed based on your preferred doneness.

Twin Tip: To ensure your steak is cooked at the proper temperature, take it out when it is 5 degrees less than your desired temperature. The steak will continue to cook inside after you take it out of the oven.

8. Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a plate for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a tender and flavorful steak.
